Here is a fabric painting of a picture I took in Connemara. I have added some stitching in the foreground after placing some batting and backing fabric on the back. I am making a fabric version as well. These samples are testers for a block which a group of us are making for a heritage quilt, which is to be hung in the museum in Galway.

RDS 2009

Decided to photograph some of the bits and pieces I bought at the RDS this year. Two new books Connecting art to stitch by Sandra Meech and Art + Quilt by Lyric Kinard I will give a review after I read them. Lots of fibers and arty bits, looking forward to using them.

Play time usually happens when I try to tidy up my very small work room. I usually find something I had forgotten which distracts me from the reason I went into my room in the first place. In this case I received an email from Quilting Arts Mag with instructions on how to paint faces on fabric using shiva paintstiks. This is the result using only four of the six colours I possess. As I liked the result I think I need to invest in some more colours. I painted the picture on the right on pellon, cut it out and bond a webbed it to the fabric. The faint face on the left was an attempt to paint on bond a web and iron to the fabric, but as you can see, part of it peeled off.

This is a work in progress. Using hand dyed fabrics and space dyed velvet hearts, I bought at the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham this year. Yellow velvet would have been nice for the darker squares.
I was not very happy with the colours I chose for this piece. It photographs better than it looks. The center was created by trapping threads between two pieces of water soluble plastic and free motion stitched to hold together.

Quilting Curves

This is my first piece using Vikki Pignatelli's book Quilting Curves.
